Rotate PDF pages free
Rotation is the textbook example of a PDF operation that should always be free. It's a one-byte change per page to a metadata field — no pixels move, no file is re-encoded. Most online tools charge for it anyway, which is a good signal about their philosophy.
PennyPDF's rotate tool lets you rotate individual pages (click the rotation icon on the page thumbnail) or the whole document at once. The operation is instant and runs in your browser — zero server involvement, zero cost, no page limits.
A common use case: you scanned a multi-page document and some pages came out upside down. Drop the file in, click Auto-Detect, and the tool flips the rotated pages back based on text-direction detection. Accuracy is ~97% for Latin-script documents.
How it works
- 1Upload your PDF at /rotate.
- 2Click individual pages to rotate, or use batch rotate all.
- 3Optional: Auto-Detect flips pages that appear upside-down.
- 4Download. No coins spent.
Frequently asked
Can I rotate only odd or only even pages?+
Yes — the batch selector has odd/even/range options.
Does rotation affect the text layer?+
No. The text layer is unaffected; only the display rotation metadata changes.
Auto-detect accuracy?+
~97% for Latin-script documents with normal text density. Drops for very short pages (title pages, dividers) and for non-Latin scripts.
What if my PDF is rotated 15 degrees instead of 90?+
Arbitrary-angle rotation (not just 90-degree increments) is coming in Phase 4's editor tool. For now, rotation is limited to 90/180/270.
Keyboard shortcuts?+
R rotates the selected page clockwise, Shift+R counter-clockwise. Multi-select with click+shift.
