Task

Sign a PDF electronically — free

Electronic signatures are valid for almost every commercial contract in the US (E-SIGN Act), EU (eIDAS), and most of the world. PennyPDF lets you sign a PDF yourself for free: draw with a mouse or trackpad, type with a signature font, or upload an image of your handwritten signature.

The signature is embedded as a transparent-background image at the position you pick. Date, typed name, and initials can be added alongside. Download the signed PDF.

If you need someone ELSE to sign (a contract, an NDA, a rental agreement), use the Request Signature feature — costs 5 coins per signer. The recipient gets an email with a unique signing link, no account required on their end. Audit log with IP, timestamp, and user-agent is attached to the final signed PDF as a certificate-of-completion page.

How it works

  1. 1Upload your PDF at /sign.
  2. 2Draw (or type, or upload) your signature.
  3. 3Click where on the page you want it placed.
  4. 4Download the signed PDF. For multi-signer workflows, use the Request Signatures button.

Frequently asked

Are these signatures legally binding?+

Electronic signatures are valid under the US E-SIGN Act and EU eIDAS for most commercial contracts. For legally-binding digital signatures with PKI (advanced, AES/QES level), see our PKI option — priced higher because it requires a certificate authority.

Multi-signer flows?+

Yes. Upload once, add each signer's email and the field position for their signature, send. Each signer gets their own unique signing link. Final signed PDF with audit trail is emailed to all parties.

PKI / eIDAS-qualified signatures?+

Coming in Phase 6. Higher coin cost (15-25 coins) because it involves a certificate authority.

What about digital signatures I already have (a .pfx / .p12 file)?+

Upload your certificate in advanced options. The PDF will be cryptographically signed — any modification after signing invalidates the signature.

Does the audit trail get attached?+

For multi-signer flows: yes, a certificate-of-completion page is appended with IPs, timestamps, user-agents, and cryptographic hashes of each signed version.
