Edit PDF no account required
Every 'free' online PDF editor you find via Google walks you into an email prompt within 2 minutes of starting. The tool works just fine without one — the email capture is there because the company sells leads, not because the edit fundamentally needs your identity.
PennyPDF's /edit runs client-side in WebAssembly. The PDF is loaded into memory in your browser, edited there, saved there. The only time the file leaves your device is if you explicitly use a server-side tool (compression, OCR, conversion) on it. You can do dozens of edits in a row without ever providing an email.
No account. No email. No cookie consent wall. You open the editor, drag a PDF in, edit it, download it, close the tab. Total time: seconds. Total data shared with PennyPDF: the anonymous fact that a page was loaded (basic analytics we use to know if the tool is being used).
How it works
- 1Open /edit in your browser.
- 2Drag a PDF into the page. It loads into the editor.
- 3Add text, highlight, redact, fill form fields, rearrange pages.
- 4Download the edited PDF to your device.
- 5Close the tab. Nothing is retained on our end because nothing was sent.
Frequently asked
What editing features are available without an account?+
Text add/edit, annotations (highlight, underline, notes), form filling, redaction, page rearrangement, rotating, cropping, inserting/deleting pages. Essentially everything except saving server-side copies.
What requires an account?+
Server-side operations: compression, conversion, OCR, signing with audit trail, scheduled sign-requests, API access. Account is a 1-click Google/Microsoft SSO — no password, no verification email.
Can I save edits to the cloud without an account?+
No — cloud storage requires an identity to route the files to. Without an account, 'save' means 'download to your device'.
Privacy implications of client-side editing?+
Strong privacy — file contents stay in your browser's memory, never serialized to a server. For legally sensitive documents (contracts, medical records), this is the safest path short of a fully offline desktop app.
Is the editor functionality limited vs. the account version?+
No — same editor engine. The only operations gated by account are the ones that literally can't run in-browser (large file compression, server-side OCR).
