PDF editor no watermark
Watermarks on free-tier PDF tools exist for one reason: to make the output unsuitable for professional use so you upgrade to paid. iLovePDF does this on certain free operations. Some smaller online editors do it on every operation. Sejda free adds a discreet watermark on some outputs. Even Adobe's free 'fill & sign' workflow has an implicit Adobe signature on certain document types.
PennyPDF explicitly commits to no watermark at any tier. Free-tier operations produce clean output that looks identical to paid-tier output. This isn't a gotcha feature we're saving for paid tiers — it's a design decision baked into the brand: we'd rather you pay for the operations you actually need than see a watermark on a free operation and think the tool is unreliable.
This applies across every tool: merging, splitting, rotating, editing text, filling forms, signing, compression, conversion, OCR, redaction, watermark removal from inbound PDFs — all produce clean output with no PennyPDF branding anywhere in the file. The only 'brand' on any output PDF is the author metadata if you didn't already set your own.

Frequently asked
Is the 'no watermark' promise in the terms of service?+
Yes — we committed to it in the Product Terms section of the Refund & Service Policy (/legal/refund). It's enforceable.
What about PDF metadata — does PennyPDF add itself there?+
If you didn't specify author/creator metadata, we set the Producer field to 'PennyPDF' — same as Word sets 'Microsoft Word' or LibreOffice sets 'LibreOffice'. You can strip this with /remove-metadata if needed.
I saw a PDF online with a PennyPDF watermark — what's going on?+
That's not us. It's either a spoofed document or our branded export sample. Our actual output PDFs have no watermark of any kind. Feel free to email us the file and we'll confirm.
Does this apply to the free trial or just paid coins?+
All tiers. Welcome coins, paid coins, and free client-side tools all produce watermark-free output. No tier distinction on this policy.
What if a competitor's input PDF already has a watermark — can PennyPDF remove it?+
Sometimes — if the watermark is a PDF object (most Smallpdf/iLovePDF watermarks are), /edit or /redact can remove it. If it's rasterized into the page image, only OCR-and-recreate would work.
