PDF to JPG — high quality
'PDF to JPG' tools on the web almost universally produce a blurry mess at screen resolution, because they default to 72dpi (which is a lie — modern screens are 120-220dpi). If you're exporting for print, email attachments, or social media, you want 300dpi or better.
PennyPDF renders each page with pdf.js at the exact DPI you pick — default is 150dpi for web, but 300dpi is one click away and handles every print job we've tested. 600dpi is available for archival-quality exports; expect JPG files around 5-10MB per page at that resolution.
This entire tool runs in your browser. Your PDF never uploads, there's no coin cost, and the output downloads as a .zip of individual JPG files. Works offline once the page has loaded.
How it works
- 1Upload (or drag in) your PDF at /pdf-to-jpg.
- 2Pick DPI — 150 for web, 300 for print, 600 for archival.
- 3Click Export. Pages render one by one in the browser.
- 4Download the .zip. No watermark, no size limit.
Frequently asked
Why is 300dpi 'high quality'?+
300dpi is the threshold above which individual pixels aren't visible to the human eye at normal reading distance. It's the standard for commercial print. 600dpi is only meaningful for large-format or archival scans.
Does higher DPI make the JPG bigger?+
Yes, roughly quadratically. A 150dpi JPG is ~1MB per page for a typical text-heavy page; 300dpi is ~3-4MB; 600dpi is ~10MB. Multiply by page count.
PNG instead of JPG?+
Yes, the tool has a PNG option. PNG is lossless and better for text-heavy pages, but files are 2-5x larger. Pick JPG if file size matters, PNG if quality matters.
Is there a page limit?+
Not technically, but the browser runs out of memory around 500 pages at 300dpi. For very long documents, use the Split tool first to break into chunks.
Does my file get uploaded anywhere?+
No. This tool is 100% client-side. Open DevTools → Network tab and you'll see no uploads during conversion.
